Help Save Date Night!

Enough about the wedding, for at least this post! This is my new place to vent about everything. Today my issue or complaint, you could say, is the lack of things to do on Friday and Saturday nights on Long Island. I feel like every weekend my boyfriend and I are always doing the same things. It is either a trip to Dave and Busters, dinner-out, the movies, or a night in watching a movie. We are not "bar people" so going to a different bar every weekend is not on our things to do list either. We love to have a good time and go out with our siblings and their significant others, and we also like to spend nights just the two of us going out.

So now I am asking all the readers of my blog to give me some different ideas to do on Long Island at night on the weekends.

Vocabulary-

Subject-Verb Agreement - The subject and verb must agree in number: both must be singular, or both must be plural. Problems occur in the present tense because one must add an -s or -es at the end of the verb when the subjects or the entity performing the action is a singular third person: he, she, it, or words for which these pronouns could substitute.

The group of students is going on a field trip.
Subject- group of students
Verb- is

The jury are having an argument.
Subject- jury
Verb- are having

Come up with five examples of sentences where your subjects agree with your verbs.

Maid of Honor Speaks Her Mind

Welcome back! This wedding has my head spinning! Why are brides always in denial when they are being bridezillas. The only person keeping me sane is my boyfriend. Why can’t the events being planned for the bride be as easy as the ones being planned for the groom? The grooms bachelor party has been planned for about three months now. They are going to Atlantic City in a huge party bus and staying over night. That is so easy a little more costly than the women but something the groom wants to do. Why for the bachelorette party does everything need to be so difficult? The men don’t sit and ponder how they are going to dress up the groom to look silly. They just go have some drink, get a lap dance, gamble and go home.

The bridal party feels that they need to plan out what they are going to wear to make them stand out from all the other guests that will be at the party. Also they have to plan out how they are going to make the bride look like a walking billboard for Spencers. As you can tell I am not a girlie girl and I don’t party often, so this whole thing is new to me. I can definitely say that I am getting better at this whole Maid of Honor thing, but there are some traditions I just don’t understand.

Vocabulary-

head spinning- driving someone crazy
bridezilla- a crazy bride who wants things her way without exceptions
gamble- to play games for money
walking billboard for Spencers- expression to mean dressing up in x-rated attire, adult attire
girlie girl- girls that dress formally, wear dresses and nice shoes all the time
traditions- something that is done by everyone on a special occasion

Cloze Exercises-

1. There is a show on tv starring ________________________ that are crazy brides who want a perfect wedding.

3. Many people like to _____________________ in an attempt to double or even triple their money.
4. Most parents when their children are little like to dress their little baby girls as _____________________(s).
5. There are many different wedding ___________________; this is how the saying of something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue came about.
6. As part of certain traditions the ladies dress up the bride like a __________________________ the night of the bachelorette party.

Grammar Point-

Every sentence has a verb. A verb is a word that expresses action. It tells the reader what the subject of the sentence is doing.

Read through the above post again and pick out the different verbs.

Bachelorette Party!

As you all know if you read my first blog, my sister is getting married in, oh my, about forty days. So although the bride-to-be is not supposed to have much involvement in the planning of the bachelorette party, my sister told us exactly what she wanted to do. Good thing she did because I am not good with planning these types of things; I am lucky that I made it through the bridal shower (bride-to-be and bridal party in image). She loves country music she was “tossing around” different ideas, maybe going out to the country bar in Commack, NY, but decided that she just wanted it to be her and her close friends and family at home.

My sister is big into cooking. She loves to create different foods and see what people have to say about her cooking. She also loves to have a good time and dance. She decided on having celebrity DJ Chef Mark Weiss come and do her bachelorette party. Although a little expensive, it is a cheaper alternative to renting a limo and spending the night with strangers in the city or something like that.

It looks like it is going to be a lot of fun and the food he is making sounds very tasty. If you have never heard of DJ Chef check-out this website (http://www.fourstarchef.com/home.html) because I had never heard of him before my sister mentioned him to me. Besides being good-looking, he looks like he will put on a good show for us ladies.

Grammar Point –

Pronouns are used to take the place of a noun. When writing a paragraph and the writer is referring to the same person over and over again, instead of writing the person’s name again and again it is good to replace it with a pronoun.

Edit the Paragraph replacing the nouns with pronouns.

The girl decided to go for a drive around town. Eventually the girl came to a street she did not know. After a while, the girl found a shop that the girl wanted to go into. The girl bought a dress to wear to a party and then the girl began the trip home.
